Anyone had any experience with these? Partuarly the 500gb model? I've read a couple reviews online and they seem to be favourable for use with home theatre PCs.

They quote a few different things in the spec sheet, just curious if it's mostly smoke and mirrors?

What is the reliability and quietness of WD hard drives in comparison to other brands (Seagate, Samsung etc) ?

Yeah - I have one of those - the 500Gb variety. It replaced a very noisy HD in a PC, so I'd have to say I'm happy with it, as it's much quieter.

As guidance at about a 1m the HD noise is difficult to hear above the fans I have in the PC - that said tho I would still say it would be ok for a home theatre setup.

With regards to reliability I've only had mine for about 6 months. I've read mixed reviews on this HD, but figure you only get to see the bad news on online forums. Mine gets a bit of a thrashing. It runs 24 hours a day with virus checking, and a weather app that stores data almost continuously. I've had no problems with mine and would recommend it

No Problems with mine. The 750 MB model in the HTPC. Very quiet.

Used a bunch of these, mostly the 1TB model. Excellent units to date.

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.
