Hello,
I am wondering what software (freeware would be great) which could be recommended  that would be suitable for developing a content management system for the mass of information held on a local hard drive.

I have a large amount of various documents and files being organised into more structured file system layout for each category. What im looking for is a content management system that could be used to build a user friendly database / index of the files to make searchingfor information much easier and quicker.

Ive thought a web page or forum type setup may be useful however i dont have the technical experience to weigh up which would be more suitable for an offline system.

Any ideas or suggestions much appreciated
Thanks

For a desktop it would require a number of tools, to work with the data. I don't think there is a single solution. I think 'mass of information' needs more definition. CMS tools.

For images Picasa would be the tool, it has face recognition so when you tag an image Picasa can tag.

Tagging items can also help you find your information faster.

Dir2HTML might be of use too.

I think you are not looking for a Content Management System (CMS) but indeed looking for an Indexing System.

You could try Google Desktop Search or Microsoft Search 4.0 for starter.
