I have a Server 2003 SBS server running at home, with exchange configured with POP3 Connector to recieve my e-mails. Lately, I have been trying to send emails and they have all bounced back with this error

There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server.  Please contact your system administrator.

            <XXXXXX.co.nz (my website)  #5.5.0 smtp;550-X-Warning: XXX.XXX.XXX.X (IP Address) is listed at zen.spamhaus.org (127.0.0.11:>

I checked this website and it seems to be some sort of spam blocking site which blacklists IP addresses. I have sent no spam from my exchange server (and have checked through the system for other evidence of spam being sent - which came back clean) so I am wondering why I have been blocked, and how to unblock it.

Any thoughts??

You are not likely on the PBL which is not a spam list..

See: http://www.spamhaus.org/pbl/index.lasso

type your ip address on the left in and it'll tell you why its on there and what to do.

If it is your IP address then there are details there about resolving the listing if it is a mistake.

If it is not your IP address then you have no business directly sending to other mail servers and should use the relay provided by your ISP.

Yeah, it is my IP address, I checked that.
It seems to be on a spam list, I have since removed it - but this is the third time I have been spam listed or whatever, but the first time on this particular website.
It is really weird, because I don't know why they have listed me..

How are you sending your email out from your server?
Are you using DNS or do you use your ISPs SMTP server?

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

@LennonNZ yeah, sorry you are quite right there. But I have had some sort of blacklisting on another site.

I am sending email through my exchange server, which uses a POP3 connector to my hosted emails, so my local exchange server effectively sends my emails using POP3.

emails dont send using pop3, they send using smtp.

If you dont have incoming smtp sorted out, then any outgoings will fail with most of the spam checks that are done. You could try adding SPF records for your domain that allow your static IP to send for it, but even then its unlikly that it will make it thru most filters.
