The subject sums it up nicely.

There are no error logs in the event viewer, it happens more often when I first turn the PC on, around 10-15 seconds. Or can happen at any time while windows is running. Only once has it not turned off, but the monitor has lost display. Changing DVI ports made no difference, and the kb/mouse still appeared to work.


Any ideas? The PC is a home built, approx 4 years old, with one CPU replacement in that time.

Sounds like a power supply problem to me.
Do you have access to another one that you can test in the machine?

Either PSU or overheating. I had this on my Windows Home Server hardware a couple of years ago. Opened it, used compressed air to clear all vents, removed heatsink, cleaned the top of the processor, applied new thermal paste, and it has perfomed well since then.

More likely to be PSU, if it happens on power on? This is not directly after a power off btw, it can happen when its been off all night.
