Hi All,

I am looking at one of those HP Office Jet 6500's - how do they handle incoming faxes?

ie do I need a fax switch?

As I understand it a fax switch routes faxs to the fax machine and phone calls to the phones in the house, before? the incoming call is answered?

If I do need a fax switch can someone suggest a good one?

Thanks

-Al

From reading the specs I would say you'd need a dedicated fax line or a fax switch as you mentioned.

A better solution, in my opinion, would be to get a fax number from 2Talk or WxC and route your incoming faxes to email.  Leave the fax machine plugged into your home phone line, but turn off auto-answer.  This means you can still fax out, but don't need a fax switch or another phone line as incoming faxes are already handled.

It looks like it supports faxability (distinctive ring).

Do we have that in NZ?

I bought a HP multifunction that had this feature (fax switch) and it simply could not detect the difference between the fax tone and phone tone. I spent a whole day trying to get it to work and on the phone to support (what a waste of time). So thats something to think about. I took it back and got a Canon MX850 which worked straight out of the box. I would never buy an HP after that experence
