  • Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-M56S-S3

  • CPU is AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0hz Socket AM2

  • Ram is Transcend Jetram 2x1gb DDR2-800

  • Case is a X-Case ZAX ATX Mid Tower Case (a cheapie) with its own PSU (400W)

  • Hard Drives are 2x Seagate SV35 ST3320620SV 320gb SATA-2

Sometimes when I start up (Power Button) the post screen only gets as far as the CPU ID.
There is no activity past that point (Keyboard is unresponsive) and there are no tell-tale beeps from the BIOS.

This can be got past sometimes by pressing the reset button at this point.
Today, it took several power-cord pulls and a reset button push to get it past this point.

No hardware changes have occurred.  I usually power down from explorer and power up by pressing the power button.

My suspicions are:

  1. Power Supply sometimes not offering enough juice on bootup (PSU on the way out)

  2. Case with Dodgy power button that sometimes doesn't connect properly

  3. Some other fault

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,
Grant
(P.S  This post written via the above PC... got it working finally... for now!)

power suppy fail is probably the most likely. after that, take a look at potential motherboard shorts.
