Just picked up a 1TB external USB drive to dump all my stuff onto since Ive sold my desktop (getting laptop later)....

Now I want to partition it up but some partitions will need to be FAT32 for use with the PS3 etc. Whats the maximum size I can make a FAT32 partition ?

Seems to be varying opinions on this, so has anyone here actually made a large (200gb+?) FAT32 partition ? Any issues ?

TIA

Can't be 100% certain but i am pretty sure i had my old WD Elements 500gig as a fat 32 drive for it's entire life (before i had the weekend from hell and lost three hard drives in 3 days hehe).

definately possible. I did a FAT32 format on a 1TB drive. I can't remember the software that I used but SwissKnife is recommended.

"The maximum disk size is approximately 8 terabytes when you take into account the following variables: The maximum possible number of clusters on a FAT32 volume is 268,435,445, and there is a maximum of 32 KB per cluster, along with the space required for the file allocation table (FAT)." (Source)... But a single file can only have a maximun size of 4GB - 1 byte.

Thanks, real world users are a lot better to work with than theories ;)

Off to format....
