Any ideas on the best software to do this? I don't want to block sites, so software like K9 Web protection is out. I thought about a key logger but don't really want a virus on the PC.

If you just want to see what sites theyve been visiting, then something like a proxy with logging would probably work.

http://www.handcraftedsoftware.org/index.php?page=5 - could take a look at that... havent used it myself though.

If you are using Google go into their   search settings and and lock safe search.  This is a great help I use it a schools.  Only disadvantage is they they know the url address they can by pass google search. You will need to create an account to use this part of Google

Have you considered just putting the computer in the corner of a family room like the lounge.

That way you can look over their shoulder occasionally to see what they are up to.

You should try Windows Live Family Safety... Just remember not to have two security programs installed at the same time.

You can always use OpenDNS for this - They offer a service called "Family Shield" which seems to work well, http://www.opendns.com/familyshield

OpenDNS also does logging, so you can find what they are upto.
