Has anyone noticed Gmail's new look today? The left hand side is now totally transparent - looks a little odd to me. Although the contacts area has been tidied up quite nicely.

Your thoughts?

EDIT: I am using Chrome.

Looking at GMAIL right now lokos the same to me, in IE though

I can't actually notice any difference... not a change to a theme?

Also using Chrome

Got a little popup saying they had made some changes to the contacts, but otherwise no change here either on Firefox (and after refresh).

Compose Mail is now a button rather than just a link.

Also, the chat section is totally transparent.

I'm seeing it. looks like they have removed some of the superfluous visual candy that meant more data needed to be sent. If they can reduce data by 5% or 10% (or even just 2%) that would be a massive savings on a global system supporting millions of users. A speed boost for free.

You either use Buzz or choose to ignore the 100+ messages in there?

Didn't notice it because I use the ig tag :) so mine has latitude etc, but when selecting gmail as standalone, it looks good. Pity they changed my theme off what I had it when they changed to transparency, gone from Android Army to Rocks :(

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

I haven't noticed anything yet. I guess that's a good thing as I like it the way it is now :)
