Hi guys,

I'm just interested to see which anti-virus software GeekZoners are using. I've used McAfee, NOD32 and AVG Free in the past and all have had their pros and cons.

I like AVG because it feels lightweight and crisp. All the others seemed to slow down my startup as they checked for program and definition updates. They had a certain 'grogginess' about them. It always seemed like they were hogging system resources.

Also, I hate constant pop-ups and warnings from the taskbar. I even tried the Avira AntiVir free version at one stage and kept getting notifications that drove me crazy.

What are your experiences with anti-virus programs? Which have worked best for you and why?

I hear Microsoft Security Essentials isn't too bad which I'm surprised about.

I would love to hear your feedback!

Microsoft Security Essentials in all my personal machines now. I have been known to run Symantec Norton as well, which has been pretty good in the last two years.

I don't use any anti-virus software.

Don't any of you find it lowers the performance of your computers?

Very interesting indeed. Seems Microsoft Security Essentials has come out on top.

From the reviews I've read it certainly looks good.

Keep the replies coming, it's all good knowledge. A great help towards making an informed decision.
