I'm looking for an external hard drive with ethernet port so it can be connected to a router and files shared across the network.

Any recommendation?

Do files transfer as fast as PC to PC via a router?

Cheapest option will be something like this:

there are probably slightly cheaper ones around.

Files will transfer just as fast, if not faster, depending on your network speed.

You can actually, the Vodafone Broadband Complete router allows you to connect USB devices, including USB memory sticks and external hard drives to share across all computers on your network. The only problem is, it's done through FTP, not as another drive on your computer and it isn't as fast.

Hi,

You might be interested in the Drobo FS. It is a NAS device which provides some level of redundancy.
http://www.drobo.co.nz/

It provides access to files using SMB (Windows, Linux, Mac) and AFP (Mac). It connects using an Gbit Ethernet port.

Also, we are currently giving away a complete NAS solution:

Kind regards,
Samuel
