Hi,

Am about to pick up a Brother 3040cn colour laser. To get full colour resolution it needs some extra ram.

Some people have used 144 laptop PC100 SODIMM's successfully. My question is:

Will DDR RAM be backward compatible with PC100? PC100 is now more expensive than DDR.

Cheers, Matt

PC100 SODIMM = 144pin. DDR SODIMM = 200pin (DDR3 is 204 pin).

So, no. If you need 144 pin RAM then you're stuck.

Second hand out of an old notebook?

OK. Solved. Kind of. The brother SODIMM (144 pin) slot looks proprietary. The DDR RAM does not fit. PB quoted me $185 incl GST for a Brother 128 MB SODIMM. At that point I gave up and bought the HP CP1515n. Very happy with the quality and no extra RAM required.

Cheers, Matt.
