Ive just rebuilt my HTPC with XP Pro and after spending half the day yesterday downloading and installing updates I want to look at creating an image in case I need to do it again.

Ive done a search but the posts returned have dates in 2008 an I expect things to have moved on since then !

I see Acronis have True Image Home 2011 which does both imaging and backups. Does anyone have any experience of using this software ? IIRC its been recommended before for being quite good.

US$50 looks to be good value if it will backup emails, photos, home movies and documents from my wife's laptop aswell as create images. An automated backup plan is something else I need to do because I dont always remember to manually backup the photos every month.

So if this can kill two birds with one stone Ill be happy.

Cheers

Acronis True Image has been a god-send since Ghost 8. I personally haven't use Acronis True Image for few years now, but it was great when I did.

There are other alternative, free ones that do pretty good job as well... I have used one as alternative to True Image but it was years since I had to do anything like that, we've move on to Windows 7 in the house, so no need for such tinkery anymore.

Ive used the 2009 and 2010 versions and was very happy with them.

They do images as well as day to day backups.

I had wondered if that would should be an option on my list aswell.

The family pack is great, but I have four pc's to update (although I doubt my wifes laptop can handle it) and whilst everything in the house is working sweetly at the moment its a case of 'if it aint broke dont fix it'.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 both have built in WIM backup, which is taking image of the partition/harddrive.

I use 2011 on my laptop as well as on my parents machines.  The email notification is very nice, I can keep up to date on how my folks two computers are going, without having to be there.

I'd highly recommend it.

i used to use Acronis and was wonderfull but now with windows 7 all good and if in case something plays up i use Reimage repair and restores windows to default without having to reinstall or taking space in your drive to backup your system. I keep my data in second drive and norton 360 backs the changes in my data automatic.

good luck Acronis is good software though,

Andy

i use oops backup. best auto backup and also saves any changes you make to your files. also it keeps the old file just incase you changed a file and wanted the previous one.
also, dont need to touch it, works on itself

gz ftw
