Hi,

A while back I had a RAM stick die, in the 2nd slot. Is it possible to skip this slot, and have sticks in slots 1 & 3? Also, if the slot is faulty, will it destroy a new stick that I put in there? I want to try the slot and see if it boots, but I don't want to burn a new stick.

Windows 7 Home Premium
Asus M2N
AMD AM2 5200+
1GB RAM DDR2 800 (Unknown brand)
Unknown PSU

Any ideas?

Yep, You Don't have to use slot 1,2, you can use, 1,3, - 1,4 -, 3,4 etc

Ok thanks. In that case, can I run 3 sticks in 1, 3, 4? 2gb each slot?

Yeah just try one of the other slots, there's a very very low chance that it'll be the ram slot that's faulty though. Check to see if any metal particles or dust is in there and blow it out. Then try another stick of ram in it, it shouldn't fry it

Thanks guys, just had a look at my budget... I will get 4gb for now, and see how I get on.
