Depends on what you're intending to do with said RAID5...

Personally I wouldn't trust an onboard controller with RAID5. Onboard controllers on desktop boards tend to be glorified software driven RAIDs, only work with Windows and in my experience tend to fall over when you stress them too much.

was going to use it as a file server for around 4 people with moderate usage needs running 3x velociraptors.

Should be a good enough solution, just make sure you have some kind of backup of what's on the file server just in-case.


Users > File Server > Backup of file server > Off site backup
