I have an HP Pavilion a1500a(Manufacture June 2006)
which is currently running an Intel Celeron 346(P) 3.06 GHz processor
533MHz front side bus
Socket 775
Motherboard:ECS RC410-M
I am wondering how far i can upgrade the processor, with a Pentium 4?Dual Core?and what the potential benefits could be.
Any help appreciated

You will have to check the mother Board specs and what it supports

IME, good luck with the branded machines unless they actually sold it with that processor as an option.

I have some older ones here I decided to invest in a $20 P4 to get a little more speed out of them (socket 478 era ones) - get bios messages about micro code and something else, but they boot and run, not sure if they are really any faster because its probably like comparing a morris 1000 with a mini 1000 - they are both woefully inadiquite.

Hi, based on HP:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c00638516
and ECS:
http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?CategoryID=1&DetailID=601&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=24&LanID=8

The fastest cpu could be an Intel Pentium D950, because of the maximum 800MHz fsb what the chipset supports.

I think you can boost the speed up with buying a cheap ssd instead of upgrading the CPU.

Cheers,
