Hello,

When I got home today and tried to turn my computer on I received no video output to the monitor and the beep error code "1 long 3 short". I looked it up and apparently this means badly seated RAM.

Yesterday I changed my 2x1GB DIMMs with a single 2GB DIMM. After that it worked fine until today.

I reseated the DIMM, but I got the same error. I checked the DIMM in another similar machine and it worked fine.

I also have a GPU, and I'm not sure if the error code could refer to that, so I removed that but still got the same error.

I remember once before I have had one of these codes and it turned out to be wrong. Could this be the case again?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks,
Arachan.

Have you reset the bios to see if the error persists?

I've had hardware faults caused by a poor power supply killing parts. Do you have a reputable PSU at all? Just a thought worth thinking about.

I reset the BIOS and now it boots fine.

I wonder what the problem was.

Thanks a lot for your help.

The error could have been a setting to do with the ram speeds etc.  Strange you got 1 good boot before the problem reared its ugly head.

I know I had a similar problem (self inflicted though) and the computer wouldn't turn on past the beeps.  After 3 failed beeps & restarts the system restored default settings in bios and then booted up fine.
