OK, so I have an old WD5000AAKS drive that seems to have died.

When I pop it into an external enclosure and connect to the laptop it says it needs to be initialized, but attempting to do this returns an error: "incorrect function"

So it doesn't seem to be visible, and not being visible means I can't use Ontrack, Advanced Disk recovery, or Partition Wizard to make backups of the drive files.

Using Diskpart through an elevated cmd, trying to make the disk online, I get the error:
"Virtual Disk service error: The object is not found"

Can someone enlighten me on the best way to attempt to save the data? It has some photographs of weddings on there i'd rather not lose if at all possible...

Give System Restore CD a go - It's a bootable linux distro that enables you to edit drive partitions, recover data etc.
