Hi all - help please.

Got home from work tonight and my kids told me that they were playing one of their games and the screen went all screwy.

Same thing happened again tonight - playing a game, graphics went haywire. Restarted the the PC, and the startup screen for the motherboard (before Windows kicks in) has pixelation on it.

Just can't get it to start normally - will start in safe mode, but if I try to start with full Windows it keeps restarting after the "Starting Windows" message. Does this twice, then asks if I want to do the start and repair option.

Which I do, and choose a restore point. Still no good.

I have rolled back the driver for the card while in safe mode, but still no joy.

Time to cast aside my Nvidia 7900GS?

Update - it has now even given up on trying to repair. Says to shut it down and call someone who cares, basically.

Okay. Have removed the video card and it's now running on the on-board graphics with no issues. Can't play any of my games etc of course.

So 2 questions:

If I give the video card a good clean to rid of any dust, what are the chances of it running okay if I put it back in (just to avoid having to re-install it etc)?

Just because the PC works now without the video card, does it neccesarily mean the card is stuffed? Or could it be that the PC has just got overloaded somehow and by removing the card it has relieved some the "pressure"?
For example, the real issue could be the PSU?
