Hi guys
I dropped my external harddrive recently and now it would not work. It started making this clicking sound everytime it connects to a computer. Now I'm looking for a data recovery service. Someone suggested Datalab, has anyone here have tried their service? I called them and the price is one of the cheapest and they have an non-disclosure contract (a good thing since I don't know what some part of the harddrive contains - it's a shared family harddrive you see).
I've also contacted Computer Forensic, they quoted me slightly more expensive, but still comparable to Datalab. They are secretive on where they are and does not have non-disclosure contract. So I'm kinda leaning towards to Datalab right now.
Could somone please share their experience on data recovery. I'm really desparate to get family videos, photos, etc. out of my broken harddrive

I've used a disk recovery service once, many years ago, when I had a backup drive fail before I could recover from my first drive failure.

I can't recall who that was though - sorry. I think somebody in Hamilton, chosen mostly on the basis of them being willing to commit to a maximum price. Everybody else at the time required me to send the drive to them to take a look at before they'd tell me how much it was going to cost me.

I got the recovered data returned to me on an external drive, and bought another from them at the same time, and started swapping backup drives with a mate of mine every week or so.

We still host each other's backups, but now use Crashplan's free service, chosen partly because you can create an initial huge backup locally, deliver it to your backup-mate, and they can then host it. So you don't need a slow expensive internet usage for your initial backup. We also live in different cities now, so a weekly drive swap is no longer appropriate.

Yeah those guys in Auckland (Datalab and Forensic) have a maximum cost of around $800 for a recovery. Has anyone else tried data recovery service in this forum? I would like to hear more about Datalab or other recovery services in Auckland since I'm going to there in 2 weeks time to try and recovery my data. Please help me out. Thank you so so much.
