I had recently installed a Xfx 6870 and reformatted my whole pc. I have a huge problem of the card crashing each time I log in. Once it starts logging into my account, the screen goes really fuzzy and once the log in is completed my screen goes black with no further response thus me having to restart it everytime and hoping it would work this time. It could be that my 500W supply be not enough for this card but I asked around and i learn that 500W is just enough to adequately power this card. I have installed the latest Ati Catalyst Drivers, Mohterboard Drivers and also Directx 11. Below are my specs. If anyone could help solve this issue, I would be really grateful.

What type of PSU do you have? If it's a cheap PSU it may not actually be able to give your system 500W of power. Also check the amperage of the 12V rail of the PSU and check that its high enough for your GPU, I cant remember how many amps a 6870 needs but doing a quick google search should be able to get you some answers.

Those Hyena PSU's are arguably the worst PSU's on the market. They are renowned for frying and if you haven't had any bangs, pops or burning smells yet you are very lucky. Run a search on Deer/Hyena (same thing) and you will see what I mean.

500W might be the absolute minimum for running an HD 6870, but AMD recommend 600W for those cards. I wouldn't mess around trying to find out exactly what is wrong and I wouldn't be powering the PC up again either until you replace the PSU.

Something like the Seasonic 620W should do the trick for you. Don't go for lower than 600W but make sure you get a decent brand. It's not worth frying your system.

Can you test the card in another PC?

Assuming the card is not faulty I would suspect the PSU first also.

my recommendation, get a cheap corsair from computerlounge. google for prices on the net and ask CL to price match them.

I dont have any experience with CoolerMaster or XFX but Corsair make quality PSU's and 600W will be perfectly fine for your current system.

I have bought an xfx 750W PSU and i am yet having the same problem. Fuzzy picture during logging in and eventually no response.

Man that sucks. Have you had the chance to test your video card in another computer? Are you able to just take the card out and use your onboard GPU and see if that works?

I have my old 8800 gt which i am currently using now..and that works fine. I havent had the chance to test this in another PC so the next thing i can do is just return it for a replacement or something.

Yea sounds like its your 6870 that's causing the problems. Your best bet will be to return it and get I new one I think
