We had Norton360 on our PC and about 4 months ago in Chch we took out computer in to get fixed as it was crashing and couldn't re-start windows. When we picked it up the repairer said he had installed NOD32 as it is much better than Norton360.

However about 3 weeks ago (4 months? since PC repair) an error message came up saying our 'trial' version of NOD32 has expired (we didn't know we only had a trial version). We are now in Auckland and I e-mailed the PC repair place in Chch but they have not responded.

My question is - can I put the Norton360 disc in and re-install it? will I have to un-install NOD32?

What possible problems might there be? (I don't want to un-install NOD32 and then find Norton360 won't work)

Uninstall NOD32 and download and install the free Microsoft Security Essentials. Or pay for a full copy of NOD32, it's a very good AV.

MS Security Essentials will cost you nothing and works very well.

if you still have norton 360 license, you might as well follow this step:
1. uninstall nod32
2. restart
3. reinstall norton 360 - use the provided key

I personally prefer avira on my desktop. even avira free is as good. if you get avira premium you can use live chat for support (i have been with avira since 2005)

also you can go to www.mynortonaccount.com and log in there, it will download and activate norton with the current licence you have :)

thanks for that - I will try it later
will I have to un-install the NOD32 first or will the Norton 360 over-ride the NOD32?

Remove NOD if youre going to use Symantec and vice versa if using NOD :)

I removed NOD and went to re-install Norton 360 - to update it via norton.com. When I clicked to update it said it had detected an older version of Norton and was removing it, then it said there was a problem and couldn't complete the update and 'click here to send the error to Symatec'?

What should I do now - wait for Symatec to get back to me or try something else?

I've looked in my Program files and there are 3 Norton folders - 1 with todays date and 2 with a much earlier date - none of these folders however contain an 'uninstall Norton' function

We've tested the lastest Norton products ourselves and still find them to be pretty bad.

We still get a lot of machines in our workshop, running Norton, that are infected or running slow or having other issues that can be traced back to Norton.
Yes their new products aren't as bad as they used to be but they are still behind the likes of Eset NOD32 or Kaspersky.

I restarted the PC and ran the instillation again - that seems to have worked
