I just bought 3 usb drives (2x8gb $35 at dse + a 16gb) and now i have a bunch of usbs that all look the same and are sandisk ones so mostly black.

just wondering if someone has come up with a tidy way of labeling them not using a label printer.

I was using lanyards but i have run out.

The main reason I label them is to avoid using the wrong one and having to swap the correct one in.

I also name each USB stick and create disk names/labels when I format them. My name and address label [Edit: they're tiny and I got them free from a charity I support) is stuck to the outside with the disk name written on it.

Attach a different keyring to each one. I've done that to several of mine.

Label makers are cheap. It's replacement label material that's expensive.

The frequent crazy discounts on the dymo makers with a tape vs the cost of the tape is why I now have about 4 of them around the house, all out of tape bar the most recent purchase.

Twink pens actually work ok if you don't mind big writing. I just use the label maker...

Label Cable Ties - they have a tag that you can write on. Also useful for the rats nest behind PC and AV kit, especially for the power plugs. No longer hit and miss when yanking out power plugs and seeing the wrong kit inadvertantly power off
