Hi Geeks,

I have an XFX 8800GT that is no longer functioning. I dare say that it has cooked itself.

It works as a GPU should until it is put under any load or strain. It freezes and shuts the computer down with tasks ranging from executing Firefox to launching CoH.

May it be repaired? If not, is it useful to anyone as spare parts?

Any thoughts and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What temps was the GPU getting to? Are you using the latest drivers? What changed on your computer when you started getting this problem?

Only if you have given up all hope, you could try baking it, but only as a last resort.

Temps: I didn't monitor.

Drivers: up-to-date and tried rollback too.

Bake? Odd idea... I like it. Thanks!

Baking has been the go to method, for anyone without an electrical engineering degree, to remake electrical contacts on pcbs for ages probably before I was born. You should however see if any of the GZ veterans have alternate methods that don't end in annihilation when done incorrectly

Have you got the 6-pin PCIe power cable plugged into it... Does your PSU have another you could try, or if it's running off a molex adaptor could you try it on a different rail

If the card is indeed dead I'm not sure what use it would be...
