So I read this online today, some of you probably did to but whatever. Lol
So it got me wondering, how many of you on here share your passwords, who with and for what reason?

I share all my passwords with my best mate Tom. And he does the same. Not even sure why, but we just do. We both trust each other entirely because we both know that we know stuff about each other that can be used against them. Haha. Its just super handy too, like, if I go to his house and he wants me to look something up but only his computer is available and its locked, I just log in and do it rather than getting him to go over there and do it and go back. And for emergencies too, if anything were to happen, we both know each others passwords to find something important or delete something.

No one else knows my passwords though. Not that I'm aware of anyway. Hahaha

I wont tell my wife my passwords or pin numbers and weve been together for 23 years.

It annoys the hell out of her too but a password is a password.

My wife told me her facebook password once. I did couple of status updates on her account. She learnt her lesson and now trusts me with nothing.

For me, i don't tell anyone my password.

As you have said, it is a matter of trust. if you can trust the person fully then I suppose it isn't a problem. People handle "power" like that differently.

I can see how it could be used in emergencies, and on a slightly more morbid perspective, it would be usefull for people to gain access to your emails, facebook, twitter accounts if you passed away suddenly.

I just use LastPass, I don't have to remember any more than one password. This also means I _can't_ give others my password even if I wanted to.

+1 - I have most of the important ones written down in a notebook for that reason - IRD, banking, super, etc.
Of course, the notebook is hidden from general view, but next of kin know where to find it ..

Only ever twice shared a password to my account (only non-important stuff like facebook etc). I use almost a different password for each service so if I ever give one out, the chances of someone guessing my next one for a different service are pretty slim. And once I had got into coverage from when I gave my password out, I changed it immediately.

I think its the system admin in me coming out.

I never thought of it from the prospective of in case I die though. Interesting thought. So say I dont pay my vodafone bill because I happen to have died, what happens there? does that mean the next of kin is responsible for my bill? or does the company just cut their losses and remove service?

EDIT: spelling and grammar....

Don't worry, it will come out of your estate. The executors of your will/estate are responsible for all debts which will (eventually) be paid out of your assets. Sorry ... off topic - just wanted to set your mind at rest.

I use password safe (similar to Lastpass). Even if I wanted to I could not remember all my passwords as currently I have around 200 passwords. From the OP's comments I am guessing that not only are the passwords shared with his friend but all the same password is shared between systems?
If so that is really dangerous, it is something that people involved in things like identity theft love as one password will get them into a bunch or worst case all of your password protected life.
I do have a "basic" password but it is only ever used for things that I really do not care if they got compromised.

The only way that my wife would be motivated to learn even one of my passwords would be if I died. I wasn't prepared to test it to be sure.

I have a few passwords. Each for different levels of stuff. Computer usernames have one. Social networks another. Emails another. Banking another. My one friend knows all of them but I know all his though too. There's a huge level of trust in giving your password to anyone. My mother knows one of my passwords but she doesn't know what services it's used for. She does know my pin for my cards.

A friend has access to an encrypted wallet file. My wife has the key to it. That's how I do it.

Since this friend moved to the US, I will probably put such file in a bank safe and the key with a lawyer - in case both my wife and myself have problems at the same time.

But giving out passwords? Nope.

sharing passwords is a good way of losing friends.

imagine x y z knows your bank password. all is well for 15 years. one day $1000 goes missing. you will start suspecting the hell out of the 3 stooges who may or may not be guilty.

imagine x and only x knows your bank password. same scenario. x swears it's not them. is it?

worse, your report to police. they ask does anyone know your password: of course, x y z knows it. they will be subject of a criminal investigation and your insurance will not pay you a cent.

just wonderful
