Looking for a new GPU that will be able to have 2 DVI ports working, mulit-monitor support etc. (Also OTB, would rather not have to hack around).

I tried looking at the components page on the project page of x86project and just got annoyed because it's not that easy to use.

So anyone have any experience and knowledge to share?

Yea could you provide more info, are you using Snow Leopard or Lion?

I have Lion working ATM with a ATi 6770 flashed as a 5770 and running dual screen, (TV and Monitor)
and planing to upgrade to a AMD Radeon HD 6850 (229 from CL) with 2 Dell 24" screens.

The 8800GT work OOB with no issues. let me know if you want anymore help. And have a look here

Thanks for the reply.

As yet, not using anything.
I want to use Lion, then upgrade to Mountain Lion when its out.

Not sure what else you want to know.

Are those 6850's still quite a recent model?

Judging by what I see on Pricespy looks like not many people stock them anymore.

AMD are currently starting on their 7000 series so 6850 is part of their previous series, Retailers are currently selling off old stock and are due to receive the 7000 series equivalents over the next month or so.

There are still a fair few available from different manufacturers and in different stores but you are correct, The abundance their once was is beginning to run dry.

Pricespy is not always the best place to search for ranges of cards such as the 6850 range, Its better suited to comparing prices for a specific card across multiple sites, Most stores will likely have a few different 6850s in stock, Computer Lounge do as do Playtech, Computer Lounge appear to have the cheaper one out of the two shops.

Is the 6850 one that works out of the box? I see a lot of mixed experiences.

Whats your view on the 6870? I saw that PB Tech have one that apparently works OOB fully.
