I can connect my PDA (now) to my Linksys modem at home but when out and about I have no idea how to connect my ipaq 1940 to the networks "discovered" by my PDA. I never seem able to access them - does that mean they are all protected from the likes of me or is there a simple adjustment I need to make. This even happens in someone's house and i am told their connection is not protected.
I am hoping someone will point me in the direction of a simple "how to" wiresless for PDA article that i might read and master!

You will only be able to connect to unsecure networks, or to those networks which you have a key to access it.

The Pocket PC will report all networks around, it doesn't mean they are all available.

As a general rule you should be able to connect to networks in public places (either the free or paid hotspots).

As for trying in someone's house, check my answer to this post (make sure you reply here, not on the other post, to keep issues separate).

I accessed Cambrdige Computer Co and downloaded the suggested software but it won't install! But thanks anyway

You have to download the VxUtil from this page. You then extract the whole zip file into a temporary folder and run the install program.

I have it installed on Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PCs.

If you want you can manually copy the CAB file to your Pocket PC and install it by finding on File Explorer and tapping on it. In this case you should use the vxutil.ppc3_arm.cab file.
