NZtechfreak: Why on earth wouldn't you just buy it from a parallel importer? Much cheaper, and no rubbish VF/Telecom firmware to boot...

I couldn't agree with you more!

This is another reason why parallel importers are doing so well in this market at present.

If anyone is wondering how the GPS works on the N97, I can tell you it works significantly better than the other older N-series, such as N95, N82 etc.

I couldn't believe that the GPS found my location within 5 seconds (using AGPS) when I was indoors on the ground floor.

My N95 used to take... well... anywhere between 5 minutes to never.

heavenly_wild: I agree with TheBartender.

By the way, do you find loading large files a slow process on your N97?

It aint fast, but its bearable...
The fist time I tried transfering files onto the N97...it crashed, locked up...but has not done again since.

Absolutley.

While I would have liked to have had the phone subsidised and supported by Vodafone...I did not want Vodafones firmware installed, so parallel import is the only way to go...and much, much...much cheaper too!

I thought Telecom had not implemented AGPS?

Take a look here;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTQlsbcCZIU&feature=related - is it just me, or are they using the N97. I thought this video was made before the N97's release.  (48 SECONDS IN)

Hi All, sorry if this has come up in the thread already but im on the verge of getting the N97 and have found through pricespy, Phonedirect $1,200 - 1,325 for the white model. Has anyone come across this at a better price if so where? Also they are offering - xt telecome option I am with telecome and dont want to switch but why are they selling these for more is this a hardware diffrence? Has anyone got this running with the xt network if so how does it perform any unusable apps or loss of usability? What does the N97-2 or -3 mean is this the firmware? Last one for now anyway, if you are like me and followed this phone and many others from the first sniff of information or hearsay....the reason I have not picked one up yet (appart from vodaflunkys holding the consumers to ransom but thats another thread) is the anticipation of the HTC Hero does anyone know when this will land on our shores and if like me both these phones appeal than please help me decide should I just man up and get th N97 or hangout to see how well the Hero is received. O and sorry for bringing another Phone in to the mix.

Well...the word is, Vodafone have the Nokia N97 exclusively...so that suggests Telecom will not be offering it.

If you want it for XT, you will have to use a parallell importer...and $1200...is cheap...man up!
Only a couple weeks ago, it was as high as $1600, I brought mine for $1400.
Vodafone, are retailing it know on thier website for $1799....so ya can't complain about $1200.

If you want the XT version (850mhz HSPDA), then enquire at Expert Infotech, they can source either version (supposevly) and they are one of the cheapest in the market at the mo...also myself and a few others on this site brought from them, and have had no issues with their service (to date)

Final point.
Watch the slang, calling companies names is a no-no on this site...its Vodafone, nothing else.

Sounds like it wont compare in regards to playing divx/avi movies...the i8910 wins easily :(

Look forward to reading your comparison, will be interesting.

Getting mine tomorrow (Friday) !!!
I still don't get why the N97 is so expensive to purchase from Vodafone. Overseas the iphone 3gs and N97 seem to priced around about the same (unlocked). Here it is a totally different story. You would think if Vodafone had exclusivity that the phone would be a little better priced.

Hopefully I am happy with my upgrade from the N95-1. N97 does not seem to offer much new, but it sounds like it is more refined. My N95 is getting tired now but has been a great phone. Really hope I can say the same about the N97 in 2 years time.

I will post my thoughts on my new phone in a couple of days.
