KiwiNZ:lyonrouge:TinyTim: Most people only use technology to help them do something they already do better, not do new things.
I'm not sure "most" applies. If by "technology" you mean Smart Phones, I've found many reasons for people having them:
• status symbols
• fashion accessories
• work gave it to them
• plan was up for renewal
• old one broken and no longer manufactured
Plus...
They reviewed the options and made an informed decision.
Their purchase best met their assessed needs
It allowed them to be productive while mobile
It kept them informed
Was with in their budget
etc
etc
etc

By technology I mean the "bonus" features that they weren't aware of (or even don't think they need), like being able to directly download music. Things that aren't in their list of `assessed needs.' Particularly those who are non-young or are too busy to explore all the features of the phone they don't already know about.

"Non-young" ?????
KiwiNZ:
"Non-young" ?????

"Non-young" ?????
Shall we say a catch-all or generalisation for those not interested in technology for the sake of it.

Rinse and Repeat
Many of the "non -young" grew up in the PC and tech revolution. For IT you cannot demograph age with IT learnings

There's a ton of research that says otherwise.
KiwiNZ:
There is a ton of research on just about everything, does not make it right

Sigh. Here we go again.

I object strongly to age discrimination

Fine, but don't use a straw man argument to defend your position.

Facepalm. Citation needed that Not Young people are the ones that need help in IT. Saying there is a ton of research are just words.

Sorry if you want more than words - I don't have time for a literature review today. Sorry if this sounds like a cop out.
However you can browse what's available probably as easily as I did. Google Scholar would be a good place to start. Wiley and Springer are reputable in software engineering research, so I'd expect them to be ok in learning psychology as well.
