Thx mate,

I started having issues with my alarm clock and also with my calendar appointments not sounding alerts. Drove me mad....

Then I discovered that if instead of using the downloaded Theme I had at the time and used one of the standard Nokia ones that came with the phone, everything went back to normal. Not sure if you are using a downloaded theme or not...... but hope this helps anyway

jjnz1: thebartender, have you had any problems with incomming text alerts not working...

I seem to need to restart my phone every week or so otherwise after a while text notifications stop working, i just accidently find a whole bunch of unopened messages in the inbox.

Nope, none.

Bu having said that, I reguarly reboot my N97 due to the battery dying...I only get about 1 - 1.5 days charge at a time.

jjnz1: I have turned off the auto screen rotation features on my N97 and it has speed up remarkably, it seems to work like a fast cheap phone now. ;)

Thanks for tip. Works fine when you slide open for keyboard to switch to landscape mode. Phone is quicker too!

I personally will not turn screen rotation, I like the feature too much, but I found turning off the Theme Effects speed up my N97 considerably...

At this point, they hardly worth the slow down in performance...all it currently does is the swipe on the Home Screen.

Disabled by doing the following:
Menu > Settings > Themes > General > Options > Theme effects - Off

jjnz1: helloox2.com is the link. used to hack/open up your n97. Think im going to wait untl the next firmware to do this one. I would like my phone to be a little more stable.

I agree with that.

While I could hack my N97 and add some extra cool theme effects I have seen available, I would rather wait for the firmware update and keep my N97 stable and fast.

Actually I am using the standard theme. Darn, it is annoying. Keep me posted if you find a solution man.

Shame :-(

My only other suggestion would be for you to connect your phone through USB, instead of choosing PCSuite, choose Mass Storage. While connected, set the alarm to go off in a minute or two and wait and see if it rings.

A bit strange, I know, but this is what happened to me. I was using a downloaded theme. Plugged the phone in as above, and it automatically changed the theme and solved the issue while it was connected through Mass Storage. I've had no more issues after that.

Hope this one helps......

its 146.4Mb. getting it now.

Is it at all likely that the firmware update can reduce the system resources the the n97 uses to allow more ram for apps?

Got the update here in Canada from Nokia PC Suite. So far so good. Graphics a bit faster but very slow connecting to email accounts and web. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Get message when trying to connect to OVI mail "Incoming mail server not found. Check mailbox settings."

I have just updated. Everything is slightly faster - around half a second. Haven't noticed anything else at the moment.

Updated this afternoon, other than a major crash just after the update which needed a battery out restart, its all pretty much the same, haven't noticed any major speed changes, but then I didn't think mine was slow before the update. Think I've got a bit more RAM and C: available, but then i didn't really check what it was just before the update to properly compare it.

Be interesting to see whats in the log when they put it out.

Pretty much the same here. Smoother and faster graphics, slight improvement in RAM with my apps seemingly starting up a bit faster.

Some sites mention this is apparently a minor fix and that a major upgrade is on its way in 4-6weeks, bringing Skype to the N97..... Just another rumor or........

Hi Guys,

Couple of quick questions as I've not been on here for a while:

1) Can someone recommend a good video player - I've converted some DVDs into MP4 format and tried playing them on realplayer but it only plays the sound (file size is about 733mb) - any ideas?

2) Has anyone managed to get N Gage downloaded - I've checked the SW updated and it doesn't seem to be available (I'm in the UK)

3) This is my main bug bear, I'm on firmware rev 11.0.21 and whenever I connect the phone via USB either just to the PC or via OVI Suite it will connect the first time fine but if I disconnect the cable and then try to reconnect it doesn't work and I have to completely reboot the PC - I've tried this on 2 laptops with the same results.  Has anyone seen this and better still does anyone have a resolution???   Both PCs are on VISTA.

Hope you guys can help.

Thanks,

Trev
