UKTAZGO: Hi Guys,

Couple of quick questions as I've not been on here for a while:

1) Can someone recommend a good video player - I've converted some DVDs into MP4 format and tried playing them on realplayer but it only plays the sound (file size is about 733mb) - any ideas?

I don't see why the default video player would not play mp4 files...plays fine on my device, it appears to be the N97's prefered video format...

You could try SmartMovie, it aint pretty but its works and its free...
There is also CorePlayer, but ya have to pay for that app...
A new version 2.0 is soon to be released, optimised for the S60 v5 touch inteface, so thats promising.

2) Has anyone managed to get N Gage downloaded - I've checked the SW updated and it doesn't seem to be available (I'm in the UK)

For some reason, Nokia are inconsistant with thier firmware and app updates, available at different dates or not at all...the only update I ever recieved via the N97's 'SW update' was the phone memory update...

To get N-Gage, I had to source the extracted file, found here.

3) This is my main bug bear, I'm on firmware rev 11.0.21 and whenever I connect the phone via USB either just to the PC or via OVI Suite it will connect the first time fine but if I disconnect the cable and then try to reconnect it doesn't work and I have to completely reboot the PC - I've tried this on 2 laptops with the same results. Has anyone seen this and better still does anyone have a resolution??? Both PCs are on VISTA.

I have not seen that, works fine on mine, I can connect and dis-connect and re-connect several times...and I do.

Have you updated to the latest Ovi Suite?
And also the latest NSU? (Nokia Software Updater)

Updates have been made available recently to both these apps, and they make them more stable and compatiable with newer devices such as the N97...I can confirm Ovi Suite now works flawlessly with the N97 as a result of those updates (at least thats my expereince)

I had the same problem when I first got the phone.

You might want to play with the settings that you're converting with.

I had to change mine to something like this:

Video: MPEG-4, 640x360, 16x9, 1200 kbps, Frames/Sec 29.9
Audio: AAC, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 96 kbps.

the level of flash support is so frustrating.

Is it likely that the browser will be updated to support javascript?

Iv noticed that the phone does connect to known wireless networks with v12.

Still a lot of improvement needed i think though.

Anyone knoow where to get a decent case from?

No issues here.

I used NSU.

Could it be related to where you brought your device from, hence what country it was imported from, hence when the update is available?

Got it from expert infotech. Tried updating throught ovi suite, also entered my product code into nokia
website update search but found v11 is the latest software for my phone?

I don't know what the problem is then...I got mine from Expert Infoech too...so will likely be sourced from the same country, yet I have been able to update.

Although...some updates I have never recieved still to this day, is the N-Gage app, Ovi Contacts and Nokia Messaging which were all meant to show up in the Nokia N97 SW update app...I had to source them manually, the only update that showed up for me was the C: drive memory update.

Everyone, what is your product codes?

Mine is 0576128: "RM-505_APAC_EMERGING ASIA Black" and i have v12 firmware, nokia messaging and c drive updates. I bought mine from infotech too, same week as TheBartender.

Its located on the back of your device behind the battery, many different codes there but is titled simply 'Code'...take not of that and post it here and then we will be able to tell where your device originally from.
