The stock levels would be due to worldwide availability.

Nokia got hammered when they released the Lumia 800 due to poor sales to the point where they would lose money everytime a phone was sold. I think that they didn't want the same to happen again so they've only kept the inital supply low.

I thought it wasn't available to buy until tomorrow?

My partner is super excited for this phone but the very lackluster launch feels somewhat offputting.

Trickling in a handful of phones doesn't really feel like a good way to get a new platform off the ground.

smgoverno: One guy in the TNZ store this morning was pretty angry at staff re availability of the phone... At least he and another both patted me on the back on the way out and said "enjoy your phone".... Can't believe the lack of availability though....

Also, make sure you take down the info from the website and compare it to your contract. TNZ website says 800 minutes and 24month Warranty on the Smartphone $139 Plan. When the guy in the shop printed my contract/invoice this morning, it had 700 minutes and 12 months warranty. To be fair to him though, he said he would fix the problem.

what store was that?

So they were able to sell you one today at retail?

Yeah. I called and asked if they had any, then if they were selling them today or tomorrow.. The guy said today then asked if I wanted one held for me. I said sure of course..
Then i raced down to the store, and was able to buy it outright, $999. In and out in a few minutes.

Willis St Wellington. Just had voicemail left by the Manager saying they can't honour the 24 month guarantee and that it was a mistake on the website...

On the website it has changed to 12 months which is ridiculous. Under the Consumer Guarantees Act it would be reasonable to expect that a phone purchased on a 24 month contract would be fit to last 24 months.

Of course it should. You can just mention that if it breaks and they'll honour it.

You would expect on the $139 plan that they would sort you out if it brokedown after 12 months.

I dont think they would if you bought it outright for $999 though.

Grabbed my partner's phone at the Timaru store about 30 minutes ago. As a side note, the staff were great. They said they had two, one had already sold. They did have a staff/demo unit there to have a play with.

Still not sure what happened to the 23rd date, they were advertising the phone on the 'wall of phones', so it's not like they only had them on request as far as I could see.

But yeah certainly seems like there isn't a lot of stock.
