foxy38: where did everyone buy there 720 from...... expansys still best price or value basket had them for 379 anyone using them on telecom brought from over seas? still considering this phone, Is as good as u hoped it would be...>>

I got my Red 720 from Expansys. Total cost delivered to my door NZ$392 and no GST or Customs charges to pay.

The battery life of this phone with all gadgets turned on is amazing. The only time I can use more than 50% in a day is if I have the GPS app running all day with the screen constantly on. But then it's easy to plug in the 12VDC adaptor while driving, so that doesn't pose any problem. It took me a while to find a Currency app that worked reliably. Several of them stopped updating the Live Tile for no apparent reason. Now I use "Currency Exchanger" as it always gives me the latest exchange rates for 4 currencies of my choosing on the Home Screen. "Weather Flow" is another great app and the only one I've needed to pay for so far, but it's well worth it. "Bloomberg" is an excellent free app. which keeps me updated with news from the Financial Markets. I find it easier to tap the Live Tile rather than firing up the CNN website on my PC.

All told I couldn't be happier with my phone, which also doubles as my music player whilst I'm working outdoors. After playing music for 5 hours or so, I come back inside with 90% battery left. Can't complain about that!

Got mine from the Warehouse, had to pay the full $500 as I needed a new phone then and there.

I considered buying online but Value Basket has some bad reviews along with some of the other lower cost options. Infotech was over $450 so I figured a place where returns are easy was the better option.

Anybody know where decent cases are available?

yes aggreeed on these sites eg value basket etc not sure myself expansys seems to be ok .... was tossing up between the 8x and 720 but I think 720 better battery camera makes up for the diff in ram and screen graphics does the 720 in nz here drive etc all work well

Yes indeed. Here Drive and Here Maps work perfectly with all files downloaded and saved to the phone's memory, hence no 3G data connection is needed.

I'm really happy with the 720.

Extra ram may be an issue if you are going to game a lot but otherwise probably not a big deal.

The camera really is good.

One of the reasons for buying Windows Phone was that I use outlook.com which I find excellent. I put everything in folders and have an unread category for new unread mail.

On the phone new mail to the inbox causes a notification tone and pops up in 'unread' but almost all my mail goes to folders so I don't get a notification tone and I have to search through the folders to find unread mail.

Is there a better way?

You can pin folders to the start screen as well which also will show notification atleast on the start screen itself. Press and hold on the folder and select 'pin to start'

Time for a mini-rant.

Why is it so hard for phone email apps to give me somewhere to see all my unread mail in one place?

The desktop Outlook.com does it fine. It is one of the best features.

If you get more then a few emails a day having everything going to your Inbox and then moving them to a folder is really tedious. It is so much simpler to have mail go directly to folders but have a category for unread mail so you can see them once and then they are gone.

The interface of the Windows Phone 8 email is great, the interface of Windows Phone 8 generally is great but this is a major fail.

I figured there would be 'an app for that' so I tried Outlook Browser. It's nice. I use Outlook.com and the interface is similar and that is great. It has categories but (you guessed it) the 'unread' category I have on the desktop isn't there and I can't seem to add it.

Yes, I can pin folders to the start screen but I have folders for individual people rather than a 'friends' or 'people' folder. As with most people I also have a lot of user accounts, like the one for Geekzone, with one folder per account this would be a lot of folders to pin.

The important email is the one I haven't read. The lack of focus on this aspect of providing an email service baffles me.

I am guessing there isn't a third party app which addresses this but if anybody knows one please don't keep it to yourself.

When you are in the email app, you can swipe to the left to move to the 'unread' email pane which will only show you all the unread emails in the inbox folder.

Yeah, this is really good for your Inbox.

As I said the interface is generally excellent, I particularly love the way the design uses the edge of the screen. But my Inbox is always empty because I use the, again excellent, Sweep controls in Outlook.com to send emails directly to folders bypassing the Inbox.

I simply fail to see why you can't have a 'basket' (Category, in Outlook.com speak) for all unread mail separate from folders. I mostly fail to understand this deficiency as it is done so well on the desktop web app. It boggles me that the designer could see such a useful feature in the desktop app, implemented so well and say: "Nah, we won't bother with that".

I think I just figured out the stupidest work-around ... ever.

The best way to see all your unread email on a Windows Phone is to go to the Outlook.com site in the browser and then pin that to the Start screen.

Now all I need is a Live Tile a way to make the thing go 'ping' when I get new mail and I will have almost the functionality of a decent email app.

personally i prefer seperate pinned folders on my start menu. i like to prioritize my email when on the go.
