nathan:
coffeebaron: I see the HTC One M8 is coming in Windows Mobile flavour soon. Reports are that it is exact same hardware as Android version. Please will it be possible to upgrade an Android flavour to Windows Mobile?

Sorry if this question is not quite on topic, and probably more one for HTC to answer. Thought I'd ask anyway.

No, unfortunately not currently, but what a great idea.

thats immediately what i was wondering when i first heard about it.

you'd have to make sure there was no way someone could brick their phone by swapping operating systems.

When are we finally going to get gapless playback? I keep hearing promises and yet every Xbox Music update has been meh in terms of actual useful features being added.

I picked up a 8X just to check out Windows Phone, it's a bummer...

Joel has replied!

For reference, the questions were:

1. Will the HTC M8 be able to dual boot Windows Phone & Android?

2. Can networkn have a free Windows Phone to play with?

3. What's up with Cortana's age limit?

4. Will we see speech to text functionality for Office apps?

5. Is gapless playback coming to Xbox Music?

Answers:

Hi Nik,

1. As part of the Microsoft MDS team my remit is Nokia, and I don't know about the HTC phones. I would suggest yes; that question needs to be directed to HTC.

2. As cute as your tiger cub photo is, nothing is free in this world!

3. I'll follow up on the Cortana age limit question. I wasn't aware of this!

4. Great comments - I agree this would be solid feature. I will feed it back to the team and if there is anything in the pipeline that I can share I will do so.!

5. Sorry another PC answer - at this stage there is nothing I can share on gapless playback.

Joel

Will we see any good remote control software from MSFT?

I would like to be able to remote control PCs in the home group.
-Shutdown / Sleep / Restart
-Touch pad
-Touch Keyboard
-Task manager controls
-RDP
-SSH / Telnet

Furthermore if this could be extended to home automation controls as a long term future goal?
Maybe even set in scheduling controls that are run by events in the calendar.

Also if this could be workable remotely using the native VPN client.

NOTE: I am aware there are several ad based or paid solutions already to some of the above, but I believe MSFT can do something much better.

Will we see any really good media player software for WP?

I would like to stream content from my PC to my phone.
VLC for WP isn’t out yet last I saw and there are not many alternatives at this stage.

If you knew how you might be able to create a web interface that could do all that.

Someone might have already

I have strongswan setup on a rPi that lets me connect an IKEv2 IPsec tunnel to my home network.  I then use Microsoft's remote desktop app to control any of the PCs within the network via RDP.   I've not bothered with setting up SSH on my phone because it's such a pita to use with a touch screen.  I'd want a proper keyboard except in a total emergency, and if I really need that I'll use the RDP then run putty.
