I've def ruled out any problems with my home LAN, at work my phone managed to detect a a wireless lan when I used the search function under "select access point", yet the Wlan wizard didn't detect it. When I do a search under wlan wizard the search only seems to go for half a second before it gives up
yep I belive it to be hardware/software I have tried getting it to connect to a Telecom wi-fi hotspot with no luck. I tried at home switching the encryption off (unsecured) my wireless access point and still no joy. Best way I can try to describe it, if you treated the wlan wizard and the web browser as 2 programs to themselves, the wlan wizard doesn't seem to be able to talk to the wi-fi transmitter and the web browser can talk to the wi-if transmitter but doesn't seem to be able to understand its language if that makes any sence. The webbrowser can find my network at home and recognise the encryption used but when I get it to try to connect it will sit there for say 20-30 seconds then say "WLAN not found"
It sure is, I've only had a few weeks and been pretty impressed with it so far up until this fault happened. I'll return it to where I got it from to have it sent off.
I've taken it back to noel leeming where I notice they have sent it off to Mobilefonerepair in Mt Wellington to have looked at, I got a supercover on it also. Hopefully they will get it sorted
Cool, hope it all works out - especially given how much you'll love the new firmware!
Camera app is FAST, startup is faster, and most importantly IT CAN MULTITASK NOW!!!!! I was browsing on the home WLAN, listening to music and sending text messages with no "Out of Memory" error - I love it!
Cool can't wait, am going to go a little OT here - can you recommend a car holder for it which will allow the GPS to work? We have tried it in the car just holding it and it picks up a signal no problems.
Not from personal experience, but if you check out n95users.com the accessories section has some reviews of N95 car holders (I believe the Brodit one was good). Early reports have it that the GPS lock time is substantially faster in this firmware, even against the aGPS assisted V12 firmware.
I'm not sure where, but I'd be suprised if they weren't available somewhere. Trademe is probably worth a look, if all else fails Ebay is usually a ready answer.
I got my N95 back today, mobilefonerepair said they couldn't find a fault and it connected fine to their wi-fi network hence i'm wondering if it just doesn't like netgear AP's or something. They did flash the phone but with the latest version 12 firmware. I'm going to download the new v20 one and flash it, hopefully that will fix it. I'm still at present getting the same errors.
Further to my above post, I'm going to try to find some other wireless AP's to test it with as when you go through google it appears my problem is not unique, seems to be an issue with the Nokia N95 talking to Netgear DG834G routers which I have. I still find it odd that originally it worked fine then just stopped working. I was testing the phone last night with my router and I get the feeling I have a signal strength issue also. I would have to be sitting about 2m at the most from the router before the wlan wizard would detect it, yet ironically the wizard would detect the neighbour's dlink wireless router with no problems! We have 2 Laptop's at home running on wireless also, I noted last night that one of them in the lounge had trouble getting a wireless signal, even when I tried giving them line of sight.
An update: seems when I reset my router it didn't "reset it enough", I found a setting to erase all the settings and full reboot it which I tried. Now the N95 is able to pull an IP address using DHCP however I am getting the error "no gateway reply". Seems to be some good progress which I'll keep working on. I've worked out with the WLAN wizard when it gets an error, the wizard seems to sh*t itself and say there are no WLANs around (like it assumes that because the wlan had an error it will always have an error), to fix it I just have to restart the phone.
