KJClayton: Maybe we can do some sort of poll of phone users, because there's more of us than you think... I've already complained to AirNZ about this, especially when they released a companion app for the Apple Watch, how many people would own those?

I'd be willing to bet the number of people owning an Apple Watch, would be pretty high compared to the number of people running Windows on their mobile phone, who need an Air NZ app!

I would hazard a guess that Apple paid for and done a lot of the groundwork for it.

Quite possibly... maybe Microsoft NZ need to do some work in this space :)

Sure, we could, however, it's been done, over and over (Google for confirmation), and WP is a tiny % compared to IOS and Android.

I like (Mostly) Windows Mobile OS, but if it were going to "get there" it would be well on the way.

It's only chance at recovery is if MS pay for apps to be developed (Which I understand they have done already), and even then, I don't think it's going to get there.

Buying Nokia was folly.

And where does paying developers to build apps stop? Do MS pay them to maintain the app? Does it then mean EVERY app developer should be paid to develop? Should this not naturally occur when the installed userbase of Windows 10 is higher than iOS and/or Android?

At the end of the day there needs to be an appetite for developers and businesses to WANT to develop for Windows (as a whole) and while there is no denying MS are on the right track with the common OS platform, there is still plenty more work to be done to get them truly excited. HoloLens and Surface Hub are a step in the right direction, for different reasons.

The reason I'm pushing this now is that AirNZ have recently appointed a Chief Digital Officer, and he is likely to be listening very closely to the customer base in the first few weeks/months to gauge how the company is firing on its digital strategy. So we should hit while the iron is hot.

I think framing this as an opportunity to produce a UWP app, rather than just upgrading the current WP app, might also provide greater weight to the argument. Having an app run equally well across multiple form factors including the desktop to provide a uniform experience would provide an enhanced customer experience.

Yes I think proposing it as a UWP instead of a WP app has the best chance of success, but in reality, and I don't mean this to sound mean, you backed the wrong horse (as did MS), and you really need to get a phone with a well supported OS, so you don't have this issue with everything you want.

wasabi2k: As a long time 1020 user - just give up.

Windows 10 on Mobile doesn't appear to be great from initial reviews and chances are it will run like a dog on my 1020.

ASB is one of the few kiwi business that appears to give a monkeys about Windows Phone. Even if you miraculously get someone to write an app, there will be 100 apps tomorrow that will never come to Windows mobile devices.

In addition to the dearth of actual apps, I am now getting hard resets in the Podcasts app, weird text input delays in texts and general weirdness.

My next phone will be an Android.

I tried.

Where are the reviews of Windows 10 mobile that say it isn't great? And anyway, its not even been fully released yet, apart from maybe on the 950/950XL. I have a preview version on my phone now (Lumia 830) and its working fine, I had battery draining issues, but a hard reset seems to have fixed that.

As for 100s of apps that wont come to Windows mobile, how many apps does one need anyway?

The proprietary ones for the popular NZ/Australian Companies?

How long did it take before banking apps were available for WP?

I just got a Lumia 640 today, replacing my test Lumia 625. Immediately installed Windows 10. It's so fast, fluid. Shame it doesn't have some of the apps on my Android. But so many possibilities. This pocket device is running the same OS as my laptop. But obviously devs aren't going there...

I don't know, I don't really do any banking on my WP, and if I did, there is the mobile website for that.

Are you serious?? Apple would not give a rats behind whether Air NZ develops an app for their watch or not. It is trivially easy for iOS developers to build Watch apps, anyway. Even Spark have just update their app to include Watch support.

You're right; the mobile websites are fine. A little basic compared to the apps, but then again do we really need a sexy looking app to transfer money between accounts? I guess it depends whether you look at the phone as just a tool.

My first post mentioned that I've recently converted to Win 10 Mobile. That happened because I've overall become unhappy with Android (for many reasons), despite having been a long term user starting with Eclair. Apple's walled-garden/phone centric ecosystem didn't do anything for me either, but I do like MS's approach providing a consistent experience across multiple devices.

All of the major productivity apps are available on Win10M, and both of my banks have great mobile websites, but the one issue I do have is with AirNZ's app.

Funnily enough my Lumia 1020 fell off shelf on Wednesday last week and landed on a corner - shattering that corner of the screen (glass is missing).

I've been using a Moto G2 I bought for my wife - have to say Android is great so far. All my fitness gadgets have apps - wealth of options for podcasts etc.
