After my recent religious conversion to WP, I've begun lobbying AirNZ for a UWP update to the existing WP mPass app.

It'd certainly be useful to be able to check in online from the app like I did with the Android version, but there's a whole host of additional features that would be useful across the app ecosystem.

Anyway, if anyone else wants to help, the email address suggested to me for contact was onlinebooking@airnz.co.nz or perhaps via Twitter.

It won't happen. Good luck to those who try. Cost of development vs. the increasingly limited userbase is just too far apart unfortunately.

With the demise (or not??) of Astoria, the hope switches to Islandwood/Windows Bridge, which involves developers recompiling their apps for Windows.  I don't believe we'll see any more native apps for NZ businesses, and our only hope is MSNZ getting local companies onboard, and showing/convincing/supporting them to recompile using the Windows Bridge.

I'll add a few more NZ businesses to the list along with AirNZ, but hopefully MSNZ is already working on this:
AA (no longer lists their WP app in the Store)
Powershop
State Insurance
2 Degrees

I bought a 640XL based on the hope that Astoria would remove the app-gap, but I've nearly given up holding my breath, and this from someone who has had 'modern' WP for some years now (all the way back to an HTC Trophy on WP7)

I asked State recently about their support for WP, and got this in reply "At the moment only Android and Apple phones are only able to download the app. We in future will soon be able to include all other phones to this list."

In the Astoria thread I posted a conversation I had with AirNZ, repeated below

They couldn't even answer your question. Typical Air New Zealand.

As a long time 1020 user - just give up.

Windows 10 on Mobile doesn't appear to be great from initial reviews and chances are it will run like a dog on my 1020.

ASB is one of the few kiwi business that appears to give a monkeys about Windows Phone. Even if you miraculously get someone to write an app, there will be 100 apps tomorrow that will never come to Windows mobile devices.

In addition to the dearth of actual apps, I am now getting hard resets in the Podcasts app, weird text input delays in texts and general weirdness.

My next phone will be an Android.

I tried.

Unfortunately, MS were like Blackberry, too little too late.

They really should abandon it and use the freed up resources to fix Windows 10 :)

Maybe we can do some sort of poll of phone users, because there's more of us than you think... I've already complained to AirNZ about this, especially when they released a companion app for the Apple Watch, how many people would own those?

Sure, we could, however, it's been done, over and over (Google for confirmation), and WP is a tiny % compared to IOS and Android.

I like (Mostly) Windows Mobile OS, but if it were going to "get there" it would be well on the way.

It's only chance at recovery is if MS pay for apps to be developed (Which I understand they have done already), and even then, I don't think it's going to get there.

Buying Nokia was folly.

I would hazard a guess that Apple paid for and done a lot of the groundwork for it.

Quite possibly... maybe Microsoft NZ need to do some work in this space :)
