I removed and re installed again. Also installed the updates and support files from garmin website.

Is there any settings to be configured to allow street searching?

Added map from gwproject nz open maps. It still allows me to search for predefined locations such as nearby food, petrol, lodging, warehouse, supermarket, banks etc etc. BUT still doesnt allow me to do a street search!

When I went into the "Spell" section for Address search, this time it came up with "Spell the State", before it asked for country first, now its state, but still no use, i put in christchurch, canterbury etc etc and didnt work.

The maps are from gwproject and they are fully loaded onto the phone.

Any help please?

It lets me search for cities as well!!! Also the voice navigation as well.
AND

also it displays all the street names accurately when I go past those streets. Basically everything else works except for searching for street names in "Address" section!!!

have you had a look on the noeman gsm  forums for maps?

I am using the real garmin NZ maps on mine, and the states are north island and south island, so try that on the open ones.

hi yeas tried North and south island. my friend has a samsung omnia i900 and i asked him to do the exact steps to set up garminxt, he did exactly what i did on my n95 8gb and it works perfectly on his phone.
It works normally on that phone, go on address search, put in country, nz comes up, and etc etc. My case, I go to address, spell state, nothing comes up. It says none found.

I will try to explain again: Searching for everything else works totally fine. It has all the street names but just wont allow to search for it in the "address" search. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and doing the whole process many times. As of now the GPS is only a toy for me. As long as it wont let me searchfor streets there is no use for it.

Please help!!

1. shows navigation works good.
2. in destination search.
3. im going to press address search
4.pressed adress search and asks me to spell state. - Note that the first screen that is supposed to come is "spell country" but in my case it went straight to "spell state". I dont know why!
5.then i searched for South Island
6.no results
7.then i put just the letter "N" usually something should come up
8. but still no results
9.going to Cities search
10.absolutely love it, all the nearby cities listed
11.searching for "Subway" in "food, fuel" etc search
12.nearest subways comes up.

so hope now you guys know what my situation is....any help?

I think you need to get a newer version of Garmin, I initially had one that asked for State, but it no longer asks for that - instead going from Country to City. I'm short on time, but I'll post up my version number later. its worth the persistence, street navigation is a must.

The version is: 4.20.00s60.9

I thought that was the latest available for s60

Also in my case it doesnt even ask for country. It goes straight to state.

I think when i first installed it asked for country but even then it was same results. But later when i re installed again it just started to ask for State first. Removed application and installed again and still same.

I think you have perhaps downloaded the map from the location I gave you, (the only one that works for XT ) as well as the one at Mapcentre (that does not work on the XT) and these two maps are conflicting on your PC.
If this is the case, uninstall both mapsets from your computer (uninstall, not delete !, they will have different names,) then download the latest map from here and use Mapsource to load the map to your device, do you know how to use Mapsource to do this?

Then, when you select Addresses you should see New Zealand as your first choice.
Cheers.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.
