Which phones have WiFi router included? ANy Android ones by chance?

Android phones that have 2.2 come with wifi hotspot capability by default.

I think it's an HTC thing but I've only seen it on Windows Mobile ROMs as part of manila. xda-developers.com might have more info.

These devices are looking like a contender more and more, assuming that "hotspot" means the device can act as a WiFi access point. If the exchange integration to the front screen is as good (better would be asking a little too much) that WM I think it will be a goer. Remote Desktop? Support for BlueTooth keyboards? All of which is quite off topic for this forum so I'll go and find an appropriate Android thread.

Just come across this article here which describes a hidden-ish tethering menu on samsung wp7 phones. Does anyone here have a Samsung wp7, and if so confirm/deny that this works?

users on xda-devlopers have tried this with their samsung wp7 and confimred that tethering works fine.

Do whatever you want to do man.

It appears the hooks for tethering are there in the underlying Windows Phone 7 operating system. Whether or not this will be opened with the January update is unknown. It seems that carriers still have some influence over these things - frustrating as it seems anything with Android which seems to be flavour of the month with most Telcos.

users on xda-devlopers have tried this with their samsung wp7 and confimred that tethering works fine.

Yup seen a few posts on other forums of people having success with it but was more wondering if someone local had tried it out :)

lyonrouge: dang, oh well, back to looking at Androids. I was expecting WM7 to have connection sharing enhanced further over 6.1, was even hoping for WiFi access point style sharing to avoid the whole "Connect Using --> Access Point" nonsense.

Ironically old Nokias operating as modems provide the best experience, as you can connect with no interaction with the phone and minimal interaction from the PC.

and new Nokia (namely, N8) also support this OTB. Turning your phone into a WiFi access point did require an app purchase.
