Hello all, considering getting a Trophy (or a WP7 phone in general) but I need a phone that supports tethering. I've read some articles pointing to it not having tethering, then others quoting microsoft that tethering will be available at launch but it's up to the carrier, then some other ones again refuting that. :/

Anyone with one care to actually confirm/deny that tethering is available? :)

Cheers,

Scott

I don't have the hardware with me yet but it's on pre-order. Tethering is not supported in v1.0.

Right thanks., it's what I figured from what I read but I was hoping (a little too optimisticalyl I might add) that someone could plug one in and be pleasantly surprised with a tethering option.

This pic needs to be updated for WP7.

There is going to be an major update available for wp7 in 3 months time (Jan 2011) which will add copy n paste (confirmed), and most likely 3rd party multitasking  (app switcher) and maybe even tethering.

*fingers crossed*

You can certainly add pictures - use the full editor and you have the full functionality including buttons for YouTube and other media and pictures.

Nothing much to add. As it is now, in the first release, there's no tethering option.

dang, oh well, back to looking at Androids. I was expecting WM7 to have connection sharing enhanced further over 6.1, was even hoping for WiFi access point style sharing to avoid the whole "Connect Using --> Access Point" nonsense.

Ironically old Nokias operating as modems provide the best experience, as you can connect with no interaction with the phone and minimal interaction from the PC.

Hi freitasm, I did do that. I clicked add a pic, it took me to an upload screen, I uploaded the pic and all I got in return was a couple of links, one to put on my 'blog/forum' and the other the original upload. I thought perhaps I was meant to copy the link into the post and it would automagically link like websites do., but it didn't.

Didnt' see any other controls to embed or anything :/

You generally need to install a driver or something right? I think the win 6.1/6.5 ones with the htc (I think) connection manager are pretty good, plug it in, set internet sharing and away it goes.

HTC has a connection sharing option, but requires manual intervention on the phone and laptop to conect (Currently using a Touch Diamond), however, Nokia (Currently using 6121 Classic) set's up as a moden, and with auto-allow, a connection can be estalished with directly from teh laptop.

Note: this is all Bluetooth I'm discussing. Using USB is actually easier with the HTC/WM6.1.

No tethering in windows phone 7. :) Pretty sure this was "advertised" as a "missing feature" along with copy/paste.
