I know that the Ovi Suite installs a seperate package called 'Nokia Connectivity Drivers'. Possibly that's available in a seperate installer?

Why wait until Telecom has it? It's quad band 3g and has the 850 3g band. Buy it from anywhere and you're good to go.

As was kindly pointed out to me, the N8 is Penta band.

If yoy look at the list of installed programmes in the "Add/Remove Programmes" page you see the connectivity drivers listed there separately. When you uninstal OVI they remain installed.
I think these are the same drivers that are installed when PC Suite is installed.
As a thought have you tried using PC suite instead of Ovi suite?
