I bought a yellow 720 from the Warehouse for $299 last week, but I'm having issues with a larger SD card.

I used a 2GB Micro SD intially and had no problems. I decided to upgrade to a Class 10 32Gb SDHC so I could load up lots of music on it, but the phone is having issues. It also won't load the camera and on turning it off, it hangs on the "GoodBye", requiring a hard rest.

Going back to the 2 Gb card, everything works fine. Confused as the site says it takes upto a 64Gb card.

http://www.nokia.com/global/products/phone/lumia720/specifications/:
"Memory

User data storage: In device, Memory card, SkyDrive cloud storage
RAM: 512 MB
Mass memory: 8 GB
Expandable memory card type: MicroSD
Maximum memory card size: 64 GB
Free cloud storage: 7 GB"

Anyone might have an idea on what could be going wrong? Help would be hugely appreciated!

cant help you but even though I like the design and really liked the windows phone 8 I will most likely give up on the 720.  Dont know whether it is the phone itself or the OS that is the problem but finding it is just not stable or reliable enought

I want to like this phone more than I do. I have phantom email from a magazine I subscribe to which keeps reloading every time a sync email. I have deleted it from two different email accounts as well as the phone. It keeps coming back. Other email from the same website get deleted once and are gone. Really getting on my nerves. Win Phone 8 just doesn't seem finished.

Had you given any thought that it might be a problem with that card?

I have a 32GB Micro SD card in my 720.  It is a Class 10 SanDisk and I don't have any problems at all.  The camera loads very quickly and shutdown works normally.

Sounds to me as though your memory card may be faulty.

Yeah I am finding that it won't format on 2x phones, and I just bought a card reader for my computer (old one wouldn't do SDHC) and it can't format it either.... must be a bum one :) Cheers people!

Maybe this thread could be renamed to the Nokia Lumia 720 Owners Thread? :)

I've now had mine for 2 weeks. It's replacing a fairly cheap Android phone. I'm still a big google fan and still very much entangled in the Google ecosystem (mainly email and calendar) which I'm not going to change any time soon. But I'm finding the windows phone fine with gmail\calendar though so no issues there.

Some initial likes and dislikes:

Like
Hardware seems excellent. Build quality seems good, nice to hold in the hand, screen seems good, camera seems excellent for the price ($299 special), battery life seems good.
The Windows Phone OS actually seems very very nice. The whole thing seems to run very smooth and just feels nice and snappy.
Live tiles are brilliant on a phone.

Dislike
No SIP client... Whaaat? (I knew this buying the phone, but geez)
I had to migrate my xbox account to the US region to get Podcasts to show up in the store (I know people say you can just change the region on the phone, but that just didn't seem to work for me and I tried a bunch of things)
It has rebooted on me a couple of times, and once done something odd while in my pocket where something ran down the battery very fast from around half full.

Overall I'm really liking it, but will make a final call in a few more weeks.

I think early builds of WP8 caused some phones to reboot, check to see if you're on the latest version for the 720, it could be that NZ carriers haven't released the latest version yet (like for the Ativ S)

Hmm, yes, it appears there is a couple of more recent versions (Mine is 8.0.10211.204 from Dec 2012 and there are a couple from 12-Jul-2013 according to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Phone_version_history)

Is there a way to force an update? I see reports that pre-release there were plans to offer the ability to "opt-out" of carrier restrictions to updates. Is this still possible?

I don't believe there is a way to force the update unfortunately. Would love to get my hands on a later version for my Ativ S :(

slightly off topic how come the 720 has an external memory card and the 1020 which ive ordered hasnt and it has a whopping 41 Mp camera. You would think an extra memory would be preferred??

On the 920 I think the designer(s) said that it was because they didn't want to compromise on the design to allow for the memory slot. And that it had enough built in storage to get by, whereas the 720 only has 8GB. I guess that reasoning maybe starts to get a bit shakey when you have a 41MP camera though.... ;-)

Note that the 32Gb 1020 is AT&T's model. There will be others and I understand Telefonica is doing a 64Gb model. What we eventually get here in NZ could be anything.

One of my gripes with Windows Phone is that when you pin a folder to the Start screen you have the choice of a full size tile or a quarter size tile with no name.

But I have found that if you make the sender a contact you can make the tile size small and keep the name.

As with many people a lot of the email I get isn't from other people it is from automated services, like Geekzone, but if Geekzone is a contact in People then it is actually a better experience as you get to keep the name on a smaller tile and the options are better than a folder.

Would prefer an experience closer to Outlook.com with Categories but I guess that will have to wait.

Learning new things all the time.
