There is no mobile network time in NZ and Windows Phone doesn't use NTP either.

Thanks mate, only one snag though: no SD slot on HTC 8Xs.... can it be applied via USB by chance?

You still need the gold card but you would use a combination of an SD card USB adapter, a Y cable and a USB gender changer. What happens is the goldcard bypasses the CID check (to enable you to flash other region's roms), which you plug in to the USB adapter. One end of the Y cable plugs in to your PC, the other you attach the USB gender changer to and then attach the USB adapter to it. Finally you plug a usb cable in to the third end of the Y cable and plug the cable in to the phone.

This sounds a bit confusing but I can provide pictures and a guide if you manage to get hold of the Vodafone NZ rom.

Telecom have time on their network, Vodafone don't. I'm not sure about 2D but I don't think they do either.

Yes, sorry. Telecom has it, since the CDMA days. Vodafone and 2degrees do not have it.

So I side-graded to a Nokia 920, and I couldn't be happier!

It's a much better phone IMO, the size is perfect for me as well (even with a slim fit cover and screen protector on).
Nokia's software is just too good... and the Lumia Amber (and soon to be Black) update has made the camera out of this world.

I remember why everyone loves Nokia... so stoked on my 920!
