OK I went and tried a few things.

1. Called tech support on the AP and asked if their router was one that had this trouble.
2. Verified that my AP firmware is the latest, and it is.
3. Reloaded the same firmware again.
4. Change the channel.
5. Tried to connect while standing right next to the AP.

NOTHING HAPPENED, I still connect but cannot browse because all I get is a 169.254.x.x address.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From one of my replies above:

...but in the second case I specified the address and name servers.

I have tried static and automatic multiple times and this darn thing will NOT connect.

I am as about as frustrated as anyone can get over something like this.

I am ready to smash it with a hammer.

I am having the same trouble with my h5555, I cannot connect to any wifi AP.  It only works on the cradle.  I even bought Easy Wifi Radar in hopes that it would automatically connect but every time it finds an AP with a good enough signal, the program gets a native exception and error and shuts down.  Tech support has not gotten back with me yet, they already had me upgrade the program but that didnt work.  I have been hearing alot of things to the effect of these h5500 series as having known connection problems but I havent been able to find anything on a fix for this yet.  Keep trying though dont want to throw it away yet but if it cant be fixed then this thing is going to the pawn shop!

Could you rule out the network side of the things by trying someone else's Pocket PC?

I start to think this is something with this model and its updates...
