old3eyes: You could say the same for Apple then as their developers don't do apps for windows cause iFans not to switch to win phone.. Maybe with this new system that Microsoft is developing with Win 10 phone allowing easy porting of Android apps to Windows this hopefully will change..

But the difference is Apple don't do apps for Android either. Apple do apps for Apple only. Google do apps for Android and IOS but not Windows phone. Microsoft do apps for all three platforms. The fact is google apps are a blocker to going Windows phone. Snapchat is another for some reason. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are far from parity on Windows phone compared to other platforms, but at least they are there. I don't mind the app gap, nothing I really use is missing, hence I am happy to hold ship and stay with Windows Phone for now.

I was looking to upgrade to this phone from my iPhone 6 Plus but probably not at this price. $649 USD for the 950XL will probably end up being around $1300-1400 here in NZ.

Windows 10 universal apps is looking very promising so far. I was going to switch to an iPhone next year if the 2 apps (Saavn and ring.com) I wanted had not come. Both have been announced with 1 released in the Windows Store already (Saavn). Both are only being released as Windwos 10 universal apps. On top of that you have Facebook which will actually be developing universal apps for Windows 10 whereas in the past Microsoft had developed the Facebook version. Universal apps and continuum looks to be the savior of apps gap with Windows Mobile.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Just saw Australian pricing for the new phones. $1099 AUD for 950, $1199 AUD for 950XL.

we're using the 950 XL and the Display Dock as our primary PCs at the moment. and really the functionality is truly game-changing, being able to have PC like experience in your pocket

A closer comparison might be a Windows RT Surface given it is ARM so you can only run Universal Apps from the Store ( or sideloaded ).

I don't see why not, considering we already can on an Intel Compute Stick. Does the phone have HDMI in?

Absolutely....

For arguments sake to get through a typical workday I need a bare minimum of Office, SAP, Chrome desktop browser with Chrome apps/extensions working, is a 950XL capable of doing this?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating, if anything I am probably more interested than most about continuum but I want a phone that also gives me a surface 3 or Surface Pro experience not a Surface RT experience.

I don't get continuum. If you are a business user, you don't just have a phone, you've got a laptop (or Surface) as well which are readily portable, so why do you need your phone to turn into a PC? And you need a screen and keyboard for the thing to work, if you've got these, you'll have the laptop as well!

But the other $1,000+ phones have apps.

Problem is still that x86 apps will not run on phone at high performance. Remote desktop?

emerging markets, no PC. Exec travelling between work and home etc. Hot desking/touch down spaces fitted out with mouse/keyboard and screen. Etc
