And continuing OT, is there any point in upgrading with new Bold software? Does it make much of a difference?

Will the Facebook app upgrade automatically or do you need to go searching for it?

So many questions, so little time

Well let me tell you guys, updating via the desktop manager was painful. halfway through the upgrade process everything turned to custard, the computer couldn't re connect with the phone so I got the reload software error code. So of course I now have a "bricked" BB.

So I Googled the problem and I'm not the only one with this issue. So next I tried to download the update through the VFNZ link and everytime I tried to download the upgrade for VFNZ it would get to around 20% downloaded then just stop!

So I tried that 3 times and had the same result.
Eventually I went through the BB website and and just downloaded the standard update and now my BB seems to be working (fingers crossed)

Does it matter if I didn't get the right update?

Thank the gods it's working again!!!!!!

That was the most nerve racking time of my life, sunday night, work tomorrow and the possibility of no BlackBerry, that's what nightmares are made of.

just like anything, things could go wrong, if you can read and follow instructions, you're set! read various forums like blackberryforums.com and crackberry.com can't go wrong

yeah I've certainly become a fan of Google in the last seven days. Going from S60 platform to BB has certainly been a substantially large learning experience to say the least.

Oh well I guess this thread could be put to bed now.

Hopefully new BB users like me find this thread helpful.

I've had the same problem. I upgraded from the Curve to the Bold (I'm on pre-pay) - and I only could browse the Net via Wi-Fi...and I couldn't do MMS either. The only service books I had was for the Wi-fi browser, so after numerous visits to Vodafone stores and a few calls to the Blackberry helpdesk I resigned myself to the fact I own a cool phone that does bugger-all unless I sign up for an account.
But after doing a software update last week, I've gotten that Vodafone Live icon on my screen and I can browse via wap and can PXT now. Vodafone compass and google maps runs on my phone (although GPS takes a while to kick in)... so now the only reason I'll sign up for a BIS plan is to get push e-mail and instant messaging (GTalk/MSN)...but I'll wait till the prices drop.

Lewavesi, it is a bit pricey but I thoroughly recommend signing up to a BIS plan, I couldn't live without mine now

That's what I'm worried about...getting too addicted... hehe. I spent too much money when I was last on a plan with Vodafone - so probably wait till they have a better deal then I'll go back on one.

Another weird thing that happened to me when I had my Curve was that when I went overseas and used a foreign SIM card...and then came back... my service books for WAP and MMS got wiped and I couldn't get them back.
