Hi guys, I got a new blackberry bold on vodafone NZ yesterday and set it all up with no hassles, however today when trying to send an email I'd just get a red X next to the message.

Now I cannot send or receive emails through my ymail account and when I go into setup I have no email setup icon!

Please help me

Ring 0800 921021 select tech help and blackberry support before 10pm and ask them to check rim provisioning also you have to be on account not prepay and paying for the blackberry service or email will not work.

Thanks John, I did call them and they were quite helpful and no I'm not on a blackberry plan which is of course the problem. The guy at the vodafone store I bought it from didn't mention that I needed to sign up for a BIS plan, which is at minimum an extra $40 a month!

Up until yesterday I was using a Nokia E71 and two weeks ago I added the broadband lite plan to my account which is now absolutely useless as apparently without a BIS plan I can only use the Blackberry's browser through WIFI.

What a waste of $1200

This is very clearly covered off on the vodafone NZ website that a blackberry plan is required to use the blackberry push email service

Maybe he didn't do his research on the website. Should he have to? If he had, he might have bought it online. Instead he went into a store, wouldn't the onus be on the store to ensure the customer knows what they're getting into? Especially on a $1200 phone, you think they'd ask or mention that you need a BIS plan?

Perhaps the store didn't ask him the right questions sure - but I know quite a few people (well 4 people) who have the Bold who don't have BES or BIS on it. To me thats like having a Ferrari and only driving it to your letterbox but each to their own.

They use it for movies etc and for the ease of texting on it. And yes, they have more money than sense.

It's a bit like the Ferrari dealer "forgetting" to mention that the tank only holds enough petrol for you to get to the letterbox. Might that not affect your decision to buy the Ferrari?

If you want to get the most from your new car you'll need to pay the extra monthly rental for the full size tank but you only find that out after you bought the car.

Hi Guys, John don't think I'm having a go at vodafone because I'm not, all I'm saying is the guy at the store was only interested in taking my money and not explaining anything to me. Now I'm not exactly tech minded but I would have thought that getting email on any phone would be the same but clearly not.

I don't quite understand what is so special about a BIS plan that it costs $39 for 10mb where a broadband lite plan is $10 for 100mb.

If you were to follow this link: http://www.vodafone.co.nz/shop/mobileDetails.jsp?skuId=sku2060054&itemId=ci525008733&selectionKey=mobile&menuKey=mnit700021&action=remove

It mentions all the fancy stuff the bold does but nothing about needing a special plan to use most of it, well at least to a noob like me especially if I was to click add to cart.

Blackberry is a managed service if you need support you can ring the 0800 number and goto a rep trained in blackberry product and support if they can't resolve the issue then this can be escalated to someone else in vodafone or then onto RIM. There is also the 200meg blackberry plan for a few extra dollars

Blackberry's also used compressed data, so 1.5MB of blackberry data is equitant of about 29MB on a windows mobile device so don't feel too hard done by there, and as John points out it's a managed service. Compression is the case for Telecom via RIM’s servers and I’m pretty sure it’s the case for VFNZ, perhaps John can confirm?

As to your problem, have you been back to the store and asked if they are prepared to help you out in anyway, say for example accept a return and sell you another device?

I would go back to the store, explain what's gone on and suggest they put it right. If you get no joy from them, let me know and I'll see what we can do.

What store was it?

Cheers

Paul

Thanks for your help guys and just to clarify I'm not "bagging" Vodafone at all, I just feel a bit misguided.
After using my Blackberry For a couple of days I'm extremely happy with it, all I want to do now is receive email on it so third party software maybe?

I'm not going to return it because I like it so much and I doubt there really isn't much vodafone themselves can do, I can't blame them for un motivated sales staff.

DrNut,

Have you tried this?

1.Pull out BB battery for at least 40 seconds
2.Put battery back in,start the BB up.
3.Under settings-->Mobile network, change data services to OFF
4. save and exit

try sending a text message once you have done this and see if it makes a difference

I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code

Have you read the thread they are not paying for the Blackberry service taking the Battery out for 40 seconds will not add the blackberry service and then provision the service in RIM relay
