I am gutted that we are in the same OS version but the firmware is different - meaning NO INTERNET SHARING for me.

What a terrible experience.

freitasm: No drawback. The "yank the cable" is basically turning off mobile data on your device, checking for updates on Zune and after a few seconds disconnect the Internet on your PC. This will force the device to see the updates.

actually i think your devices already sees the updates, but this trick bails out before it searches the list of devices which are OK'd to receive them and falls back to install anyway ;-)

That firmware update will come to your phone soon. The update comes in three parts.
If you're really desperate, grab a copy of Nokia Care Suite and flash it yourself :)

check the product code (on your sim card holder ) of your 800 against this list http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/lumia/apac/availability/ you will find it is a 059N7D3 or a 059N7B6

You will get it "next week" :) mabybe... maybe not
I think Telecom/Nokia have mucked up with the push of these two products and push only 2 of the 3 updates.
Numpties in terms of settings customer expectations.

Thanks, I knew the page, forgot about it. Yes, mine is in the "waiting for approval" list.

Microsoft set high expectations when talking about Windows Phone 7 updates, only to go back to the old "we wait for telcos for approval" load.

At least once they should copy Apple and actually do things their way. But forget it: we are not the customers, the telcos are.

My phone is neither of these (059N7D3 or a 059N7B6)

Mine is: 059M5P6 Its a parrallel import, does that impact when I should be getting the update if ever?

...I'm guessing it does.

EDIT: Looks like mine is a Taiwanese version. It also says "Update Available". But I'm not sure which catagory I fall in to over here. I think I'm going to need to use the cable trick to get this update.

Forced my phone on to the update tonight.

Turns out its far easier to do it this way:

Plug your phone in, disable network adapter on your computer.
enable flight mode with Wifi.
click update and turn wifi off 6 seconds after you hit update.
The update should appear immediately on your computer screen.

Since updating, the firmware revision number has changed to: 1600.2479.7740.11451
Not sure if that is the latest, but it seems like something has happened.

I was having issues with my Lumia 800 and HTC Titan II compass not pointing north. I went into Telecom and Vodafone and tested the Samsung Omnia, Lumia 610 and 710 (all WP7) and none of them pointed north.

I did a forced update, but still no luck. Has anyone done a WP7 update which fixed their compass? I'm assuming this is a Windows issue (or hardware magnetometer) since it's the same for a lot of phones?

(please don't say calibrate your compass)

as per your other post, there is definately an issue with compass, and updates dont fix it. check daniels blog here for good description of issue: http://www.fishofprey.com/2012/02/htc-trophy-7-compass-magnetic.html

My Telecom Lumia 710 reported the update was available last night. 3 updates applied to the phone - all worked perfectly. So not everyone is having bad upgrade experiences.
