Source: http://conversations.nokia.com/2012/06/27/new-features-and-apps-with-a-software-update-for-the-nokia-lumia-800-and-nokia-lumia-710/

Today, a new software update for the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 starts rolling out that will bring some powerful new features to your device and access to new apps you will use again and again

new features in OS with update:
* internet sharing (aka tethering, wifi hotspot)
* flip to silence (as opposed to the htc flip to speakerphone :P)

it also adds capabilities so you can download new apps soon:
* camera extras (smart group, action shot, self time, panorama)
* contact share (business cards by sms)
* play to (play from lumia to DLNA devices on network)

soon after, there will also be a couple of zynga games coming to lumia, then the rest of windows phones:
* draw something
* words with friends

Also Play To is already in the Markeplace with a bunch of new apps.

Funnily enough - Vodafone Australia has it as approved on the Nokia website - the only telco in AU/NZ that has it approved.

Sort it out Vodafone NZ.

i tried the old "start update, count to 5, kill internet access" method last night and got offered the 7.10.8112.7 update.

after that i tried again, but wasnt able to get the 7.10.8773.98 (tango) update that way.

I really dislike how updates are available but not offered.

Hi Guys,

It's a staggered release to mitigate large loads and failed downloads in the first few days/weeks, I understand it's frustrating that you have to wait, but I know I'd personally rather it worked on the first try instead of a failed download and potentially bricked handset.

Hey,
This already has the updates the Lumia 800 and 710 is receiving available. Play To is available for it now on the Marketplace with Camera Extras coming through in July.

The 7.8 update has no availability date yet.

This would be ok in times past, not in the times of CDNs, load balancers. Also update files are checked with a checksum before being applied.

Staggered releases make no sense at all, except for frustation.

Can you not trick it into updating like with the Mango update?
