general NZ address search works fine - e.g. Lorne St (where I work) brings up several options.

my 6121 is not bad for the price - i.e. the cheapest S60 available :)
battery life is crap though once you start playing.....

What do you mean? On the bottom of the Maps 2.0 there is an empty address field where you just put the address you are looking for and click the search button.. Then it searches online. It works for me.

The most annoying thing for me with the Maps software is that if you purchase a license, every time you start the program it goes online and check your licence online and then it will enable the navigation. If you have no online connection (for example out of coverage) the navigation function will not work. ???

I have voice navigation up and running and it's excellent, however I have no points of interest for New Zealand. If I try to choose accommodation, dining out etc, I only find Australian points of interest.

Is this how it is, or is there something I need to do to get NZ POI data?

The street level detail in Wellington is really good and I'm getting some points of interest show up like petrol stations. But am I correct in saying that there is no routing functionality unless you pay for the license? I thought the additional license was just for the voice-guided navigation? I guess I'll be sticking to Google Maps for now...

The navigation with voice guidance is pretty good.

Can anyone else confirm though that they seem to have taken voice guidance away when you choose to walk rather than drive? This was not the case in version 1 and it's pretty sad if they've done this.

Regarding POI's - yes - very limited right now. Its sorts them in order of proximity, so when you get Australian matchs those are the nearest it has... Well, well, inferior to Garmin in this regard.

Google Maps for Mobile is the best free app if you don't mind the constant use of the network. It now ties in with your GPS which is great plus you can laugh at "My Location" as it attempts to position you based on the cells (actually it can be surprisingly accurate).

Yes I agree, it's not bad at all, especially with these new maps.

It'll be interesting to see if Vodafone bring their GPS solution to Symbian phones with integrated GPS (I have an N82 at present).

My two items on the wish list are voice guidance for pedestrian mode and better POI data, but perhaps we'll get there.

In terms of the best solution? Garmin still rules the roost here in NZ, by a long shot (>9000 POI's + a few other things I like much better than Nokia maps).

EDIT: Yep, no voice guidance for walking here either... No option to enable it anywhere, so I guess its out...

I'll give it a full going over this weekend and let you all know my thoughts ;)

I must say, the more you use it the faster the satellite lock on becomes... I'm getting 60-75% signal inside even with A-GPS turned off!

With some POI's there is contact information embedded within the icon, so you can find a hotel in Auckland and dial the place whilst in the Maps application. I would imagine going forward this will get better.
